Happy 5th Birthday, Plaid
“It’s just business.” It’s never just business. It never will be. If it ever does become just business, that will mean that business is very bad. - Phil Knight
How time flies. 5 years ago this week, Pat Lougheed and I launched Plaid Analytics at the 2016 ARUCC conference. Plaid helps post-secondary institutions make their SEM (strategic enrolment management) data work for them. It took a pretty big leap of faith to give up quality jobs at UBC and SFU in order to try to help the sector as a whole, but we’re pleased with our progress so far, and know that there is a great future ahead.
We’ve learned a lot over these years, and we couldn’t have done it without partnering with leading post-secondary institutions and related organizations. Thank you for joining us on this journey, for putting faith in a little company from the west coast, and for helping build capacity and desire to use data to help support strategic enrolment management and the student experience.
Every time we hire someone, he or she should raise the bar for the next hire, so that the overall talent pool is always improving - Jeff Bezos
Over the years, our team has grown. Anya Goldin joined us 2.5 years ago while finishing her degree; Clara Yeung joined this year. Our alumni continues to make us proud - thanks to Bhavya Anand, Lynne Jamieson, Alice Zhang, and others who have supported specific projects. I also want to give a shout out to my co-founder Pat Lougheed, who has worked with me and the team to build this company into what you see today, and has laid a foundation for the future. Our families have supported us every step of the way, and deserve so many more thanks than these words can provide. Many people have mentored us, and have helped us find our path, for which we are eternally grateful.
As we look forward to our next 5 years, I hope you’ll join us in helping post-secondary institutions work effectively with their SEM data. Through collaboration, we can help increase access for diverse populations, increase student success, and make it so your team enjoys using data to inform their actions. We’d love to hear your memories of working with Plaid.
